Description:
Arbutus unedo is an attractive evergreen shrub or small tree native to the Mediterranean region and western Europe. It has glossy dark-green leaves, reddish-brown peeling bark, and clusters of small white or pinkish bell-shaped flowers. Its round fruits mature from yellow to orange-red and have a rough, strawberry-like appearance. It is valued as an ornamental tree and is also attractive to bees and birds.
Germination tips:
Sow seeds on the surface of a well-draining seed mix and do not bury deeply. Keep them moist and provide temperatures around 15–20°C. Germination can be slow and irregular, often taking 4–12 weeks or longer. A period of cold stratification for 6–8 weeks can improve germination. Avoid waterlogging and provide bright light after sprouting.
