Moringa stenopetala

Common names: African moringa, Ethiopian moringa, Cabbage tree, Cabbage-leaved moringa, Konso cabbage tree, Shiferaw.

Description:

Moringa stenopetala is a fast-growing, drought-tolerant tree native to Ethiopia and northern Kenya. It resembles the more familiar Moringa oleifera but has much larger, broader leaves and a thicker trunk that can store water. The leaves are traditionally eaten as a nutritious vegetable, while the tree is also valued for its attractive form and ability to thrive in dry conditions.

Germination tips:
Soak seeds in warm water for 12–24 hours, then sow about 1–2 cm deep in a well-draining seed mix. Keep the medium warm and lightly moist, but never waterlogged. Germination generally occurs in 1–3 weeks. Provide bright light as soon as seedlings emerge.

Growing note: Prefers warm temperatures, full sun and excellent drainage. It is more sensitive to cold and frost than Moringa oleifera.
