Common names: Himalayan Prickly Ash, Indian Prickly Ash, Timur, Nepal Pepper, Toothache Tree, Winged Prickly Ash, Yellow Wood, Tejbal, Tejowati.
Description: Zanthoxylum armatum is a thorny aromatic shrub or small tree native to the Himalayas and parts of South and Southeast Asia. It has pinnate, aromatic leaves, prickly branches and small reddish-brown fruits containing black seeds. The dried fruits are widely valued as a pungent spice, particularly as Timur/Nepal Pepper.
Germination tips:
Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours.
Sow 0.5–1 cm deep in a well-draining seed mix.
Keep the medium evenly moist, never soggy.
Maintain 20–25°C with good indirect light.
Germination can be slow and irregular; fresh seed generally gives better results.
